WILLIAM H. BRADLEY (1868-1962)

FRINGILLA. 1895.

19½x9¼ inches, 49½x23½ cm. [Wayside Press, Springfield, Mass.]
Condition A-: minor abrasions at top and upper right edge; tipped to mount. Matted and framed.

Bradley designed and produced this book of poetry, once again evoking the brilliance, detail and thoroughness of the complete craftsman and artisan as personified by William Morris. He "not only designed the cover, title page, layouts, and supervised the production from beginning to end. He also designed a poster to promote the sale of the book" (Koch p. 59). The book itself, a collection of poetry on love, pride, passion and envy by the author of Lorna Doone, was issued in a limited edition, 600 copies on regular paper and 40 on Japan.
